California Court Clears Way for Stem Cell Research
The state Supreme Court declined to review a lower court's ruling on May 16, thereby upholding the constitutionality of California's stem cell agency. The decision clears the way for the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine to give billions of dollars in research grants that had been held up by the legal challenges. Joining Larry are John Simpson, Director of the Stem Cell Project with the Foundation for Taxpayer and Consumer Rights, and Bob Klein, chairman of the Independent Citizens Oversight Committee, the CIRM governing board.

Larry Mantle talks with Steven Cuevas, KPCC's Inland Empire Reporter, Phil Willon, editor of the LA Times Inland Empire edition, and Cassie MacDuff, columnist with The Press Enterprise, about the latest news, events, and developments in the Inland Empire.
Mexico and the Drug Wars
President Calderon has deployed the Mexican Army to combat the drug trade, but some fear this will put Mexico's "last honest institution" at risk for corruption. Sam Enriquez, foreign correspondent with the Los Angeles Times based in Mexico, and Sam Quinones, staff writer for the Los Angeles Times join Larry to talk about the escalating drug wars in Mexico. Quinones is author of Antonio's Gun and Delfino's Dream: True Tales of Mexican Migration (University of New Mexico Press).
Progress on Immigration Bill
A bi-partisan group of senators has reached an agreement with the Bush administration on an immigration overhaul that would grant legal status to millions of undocumented immigrants already in the U.S. Larry discuss the details of the proposed bill, which would also fortify the border, with Jack Martin, Special Projects Director of the Federation for American Immigration Reform, and Anjelica Salas, Executive Director of the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles.
