Villaraigosa-backed LAUSD School Board candidates Tamar Galatzan and Richard Vladovic have won their races. The victories give the Mayor majority support on the seven-member board that oversees the nation's second-largest school district. It's a major boost for Villaraigosa, whose bid to gain at least partial control of the district was shot down in the courts.

Why is a diplomatic solution to the Iraq war no longer a priority for both the Democrats and the Bush administration? Most Democrats support a planned pullout of American troops, yet they haven't proposed a solution for ending the violence in Iraq. Meanwhile, the Bush administration's focus is on military solutions designed to stave off chaos until the Iraq government is in a position to lead the country. Larry talks about the situation with Steven Simon of the Council on Foreign Relations and Ambassador James Dobbins of the RAND National Security Research Division.
