Catalina Fire
Larry Mantle gets the latest on the Catalina Island fire that has been burning since yesterday afternoon. Four-thousand acres have been burned and local homes are threatened, resulting in the evacuation of about 3,800 people. The fire is ten percent contained. Larry discusses the situation with Captain Mike Brown of the LA County Fire Department, Carrie Kahn, NPR Reporter on the scene in Avalon, Brian Watt, KPCC Reporter at the Catalina Landing in Long Beach, Dan Teckenoff, publisher of the Catalina Islander, and Bob Rhein of the Catalina Island Conservancy.
Butt Shots
Humphrey Bogart smoked in Casablanca, as did James Dean in Rebel Without a Cause. Classic film actors loved the business of smoking and cigarette companies were all too happy for the free advertising. Times change, however, and smoking is not considered cool by defiant health advocates, especially in movies aimed at young people. On Thursday the MPAA announced it is expanding the consideration of smoking when evaluating and assigning movie ratings. Larry discusses this latest development in film ratings with Bill Triplett of Variety and Paul Billings of the American Lung Association.

Larry talks with the Academy Award and Golden Globe nominated actor about his new autobiography, Things I've Said But Probably Shouldn't Have: An Unrepentant Memoir (Wiley).
