How are Arab Americans Reacting to the Iraqi Prison Abuse Scandal?
Last week the world witnessed President Bush and Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld apologizing for the abuses suffered by Iraqis detained at Abu Ghraib prison. Some critics are dubious about the effectiveness of these apologies especially on the Arab world. Larry Mantle opens the phones to talk with local Arab Americans about how the scandal is affecting them. He begins the segment with a short interview of Salam Al-Marayati, Executive Director of the Muslim Public Affairs Council.
Women In Business
An exhibit called Enterprising Women: 250 Years of American Business, opens on May 8th at the downtown Public Library on 5th street. Running through September 19th, Enterprising Women looks at over 40 stories of prominent women in American business throughout history. Larry Mantle takes “AirTalk” to the LA Central Library to discuss the exhibit and to speak about the lives and work of California businesswomen. Joining him is Jane Knowles, project manager for the Enterprising Women exhibit and archivist at the Schlesinger Library, Maria de Lourdes Sobrino, founder and CEO of Lulu’s Desserts Corporation and Keith Lawrence, president of the Mary Pickford Institute for film Education.
