IPCC Report on Global Warming - The Solutions
The IPCC released its third report on global warming today, this time focusing on solutions to the crisis. Meeting in Bangkok, the international delegates agreed the best way to avert a disastrous spike in global temperatures is to greatly reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Larry discusses the report's findings and Congress' proposed legislation addressing global warming with Professor Charles D. Kolstad of the Bren School of Environmental Science & Management at UCSB, and Ann Carlson, Faculty Director of the UCLA Environmental Law Center.
D.C. Madam Case
Tonight on ABC's show "20/20," Brian Ross will interview Deborah Jeane Palfrey, the "D.C. Madam." The question remains, will ABC release some of the names of her clients? If so, will they only release the names of those considered by the network to be prominent public figures? Larry Mantle takes listener calls about ABC's handling of the D.C. Madam's phone list. Whose names should be released and why?
Governor Schwarzenegger on Healthcare
Jeffrey Callison at our sister public radio station KKJZ in Sacramento, recently interviewed Governor Schwarzenegger about his healthcare plans. We're pleased to bring you that conversation.
The Appeal of Torture Films
Horror films seem to be more horrifying than ever. Often victims are not just pursued and murdered, but extensively tortured as well. What are the historical roots of this disturbing cinematic trend, and why are torture films so popular with today's moviegoers? Larry discusses the subject with writer and film critic A.S. "Scott" Hamrah, and Stuart Fischoff, Professor Emeritus of Media Psychology at Cal State LA.
