Larry Mantle speaks with "GI" Wilson, a retired Infantry Colonel in the USMC, and military analyst for ABC, channel 7, about developments in the war with Iraq during in the last 48 hours. A US General said recently that he had not been prepared by wargames for the type of fighting his forces now face in Iraq. Sympathies in the Arab world grow each day, and the US leadership acknowledges that this conflict may take longer than expected.

Friendly Fire

Late last week dozens of U.S. Soldiers were injured by a "friendly fire" incident. Although "friendly fire" injuries and deaths are not uncommon in war, they are devastating to victims and their families. What is the U.S. military doing to prevent "friendly fire" in Iraq? Joining host Larry Mantle is Scott Snook, Associate Professor of Organizational Behavior at the Harvard Business School and the author of Friendly Fire: The Accidental Shootdown of U.S. Black Hawks Over Northern Iraq(Princeton University Press). Scott Snook was injured by friendly fire in Granada in 1983.

War in Mesopotamia

Iraq was once Mesopotamia: the birthplace of civilization, and home to some of the oldest and most significant archaeological sites in the world. Now it's a war zone, and many archaeologists are concerned that some of the world's most important ancient sites and artifacts will be destroyed, and that museums in the region will be looted. Larry Mantle discusses these issues among others with Clemens Reichel of the University of Chicago.

Israel-Palestinian Update

The world has been focused on the war in Iraq, but what is happening in Israel and in the Palestinian territories? Abu Mazen was appointed to be the new Palestinian prime minister on March 19th, and an American protestor was killed amidst the continuing violence on the West Bank. Meanwhile, the US and Britain have announced a new "roadmap" for peace. Joining host Larry Mantle is Laura King, Los Angeles Times Jerusalem Bureau Chief, to give us an update on Israel and Palestine in the shadow of the war with Iraq.
