JILL CARROLL'S RELEASE

AirTalk for March 30, 2006

A US reporter held hostage in Iraq for more than two months has been freed. Jill Carroll, who works for the Boston-based Christian Science Monitor, was abducted by unknown gunmen in west Baghdad on 7 January. She told Iraqi television she had been treated well and was looking forward to being reunited with her family. The US ambassador to Iraq said no ransom was paid by the US embassy. Ms Carroll's release came a week after three other Westerners were freed. Larry talks about Carroll’s release and the status of other hostages in Iraq with Abi Wright, Director of Communications for the Committee to Protect Journalists and Zahir Janmohamed, Advocacy Director, for Middle East and North Africa for Amnesty International USA.

WEIRD CALIFORNIA

AirTalk for March 30, 2006

The newest entry in the best-selling series, Weird California proves that The Golden State is the land of sun, surfing, and serious weirdness. The book is filled with stories about abandoned places, cursed roads, friendly and not-so-friendly ghosts, bizarre properties, and roadside oddities. Larry speaks with two of the book’s authors about the sometimes disturbing, other times hilarious, but thoroughly weird, sights in California.
