Feinstein Calls to Preserve California Lands
While environmentalists and alternative energy advocates are usually in cooperation, today they are at odds. Sen. Diane Feinstein is proposing legislation that would restrict the building of alternative energy sources in favor of preservation of California lands between the Mojave National Preserve and Joshua Tree National Park. She said she has nothing against clean energy, but stressed that these lands must be conserved. More than 800,000 acres are likely to be declared untouchable, which makes the president's push for nationwide clean green energy that much more difficult to be reached.
Swarm of Quakes at Salton Sea
A 4.8 magnitude earthquake hit the eastern shore of the Salton Sea early this morning. Though no damage was reported in the sparsely populated region of Imperial County, scientists are keeping close watch on the area, which was hit by 42 smaller quakes over last weekend. The Salton Sea lies at the southern end of the San Andreas fault, and scientists are concerned that fault movements there could lead to major earthquakes. Larry Mantle finds out the seismic concerns for the Southland.
