Update on the War in Iraq; The Hidden Story of America's Space Espionage
Update on the War in Iraq
Larry Mantle speaks with experts about developments in the war with Iraq during the last 48 hours including: the capture and possible execution by Iraqi soldiers of members of a maintenance unit in the desert near An Nasiriya; the broadcast of video tape on Al Jezeera of the interrogation of captured American soldiers, as well as pictures of dead US troops; the discovery and capture near Najaf of a suspected chemical weapons facility, and the armed resistance by numerous Baath Party paramilitaries in southern Iraq around Basra, slowing down the coalition ground force attack on Baghdad. Joining Larry are Hal Kempfer, a military analyst for ABC 7 News and a Reserve Marine Lt. Colonel, Ben Works, Executive Director of the Strategic Issues Research Institute, an independent think tank in Washington, D. C., and the principal radio analyst for ABC Radio, Thomas Henricksen, Senior Fellow and the Associate Director for Program Development at the Hoover Institution, Adam Schiff, Congressional Representative from the 29th District, and John Miller, Special Assistant to the Chief of Police, LAPD, designated to create a new Bureau of Homeland Security for the City of Los Angeles.
The Hidden Story of America's Space Espionage
The war in Iraq is heavily reliant on spy satellite technology, yet our espionage capabilities are largely misunderstood by the American public. Phillip Taubman, deputy editorial page editor of the New York Times and former Times' Moscow bureau chief, has reported on national security and intelligence issues for more than twenty years. He joins Larry Mantle to explain the spy technologies that have come into play during our invasion of Iraq. Mr. Taubman's new book is called Secret Empire: Eisenhower, the CIA, and the Hidden Story of America's Space Espionage (Simon & Schuster).
