Health care vote end game
It's decision time on Capitol Hill, as Democrats rally to gain enough support for the health care bill before a House vote this Sunday. Will they get the 216 votes needed to pass the legislation? Larry Mantle looks at how things stand in the final push.

Next on the agenda, immigration reform
New York Democrat Chuck Schumer and South Carolina Republican Lindsey Graham have teamed up to promote a bi-partisan immigration reform proposal. The plan, announced yesterday, would bolster enforcement in workplaces and at the border, as well as provide paths to citizenship for some of the United States’ estimated 10 million undocumented. How closely do the proposed policies resemble the comprehensive immigration reform bill that nearly passed in 2006. Will Schumer and Graham’s partnership set a new tone after bitter partisan battles over health care? What should—or shouldn’t—be included in new immigration legislation?
Senators Graham and Schumer described and defended their proposal in today's Washington Post.
Guests:
Steven Camarota, Director of Research at Center for Immigration Studies
Tamar Jacoby, President and CEO of Immigration Works USA, a national federation of employers working to advance better immigration law
Rethinking LA streets
Streets are for cars, right? Well, not according to Janette Sadik-Khan, urban planner and New York City’s Transportation Commissioner. She envisions streets as, yes, an area for automobiles to use, but also a public space for parks, games, open-air markets, events, bikes and pedestrians, where cars are restricted to a few narrow lanes and are made subservient to these other uses. Do such ideas have a place in Los Angeles, where the car is king? It’s not that far fetched—think of the 3rd Street Promenade in Santa Monica. Sadik-Khan is in LA to attend “Street Summit 2010” tomorrow at Los Angeles Trade Tech College. The event, which is sponsored by Occidental College’s Urban and Environmental Policy Institute, brings together the country’s top bike advocates and urban planners who are re-visioning America’s cities.
