Fiscal Cost of the War in Iraq

AirTalk for March 17, 2005

Last month, President Bush asked for $82 billion in emergency funds to keep paying for operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. This request was not part of the President’s new $2.5 trillion budget. Given the rising deficit, critics wonder from where this extra money will come and when the requests for emergency funding will end. Defenders of the cost of the war in Iraq contend that the ongoing fiscal costs are worth it. Experts Jack Spencer, Senior Policy Analyst for Defense and National Security at the Heritage Foundation, and Max Sowickey, economist for the Economic Policy Institute join Host Larry Mantle to discuss the issue.
