New Weaponry And The Latest News

AirTalk for March 17, 2003

The Air Force just tested a new bomb called a "MOAB." If its power sounds Biblical, that's because the 21,000-pound bomb has the power of a small nuclear weapon. The MOAB is but one new device that might be used if we go to war with Iraq. Other new military weaponry include electro-obstacles, urban robotics, improved optics, UAV drones and much more. Joining host Larry Mantle is Hal Kempfer, a military analyst for ABC 7 News and a Reserve Marine Lt. Colonel, Ben Works, Executive Director of the Strategic Issues Research Institute, an independent think tank in Washington, D. C., and the principal radio analyst for ABC Radio, and "GI" Wilson, a retired Infantry Colonel in the USMC.

Extinguishing Oil Well Fires

AirTalk for March 17, 2003

Iraqi forces set fire to over seven hundred Kuwaiti oil wells during the last Gulf War, leaving a dangerous mess for allied forces to face. Companies like Red Adair's Wild Well Control, Safety Boss, Boots and Coots, and Cudd Pressure Control, went to Kuwait to extinguish the blazing wells. What will happen if we go to war with Iraq? Some analysts fear that Saddam Hussein might set his own oil fields on fire to slow down the allied advance. Host Larry Mantle speaks with Mike Miller, president and CEO of Safety Boss, an oilfield firefighting company based in Calgary, about capping and controlling sabotaged oil wells.
