Koreatown Community Forum: Crisis on the Korean Peninsula
The relationship between the United States and North Korea is in crisis. Everyday the gap between the two countries widens as North Korea escalates tensions through a series of provocative acts and proclamations. In the first hour of our community forum, Larry Mantle and a panel of experts explore the current crisis, examining its historical context, the role of president Bush in this present conflict, and solutions to the stand-off in relations between the US and North Korea. They will also discuss how the southern California Korean-American community is responding to the crisis in US-N. Korea relations. Joining host Larry Mantle are Kyeyoung Park, Associate Professor in the Department of Anthropology, University of California, Los Angeles; Kyung Moon Hwang, Assistant Professor of History, University of Southern California; Benjamin "Ben" Min, retired Professor of History, State University of New York, Buffalo, and Edward Chang, Associate Professor of Ethnic Studies, University of California, Riverside.

Larry Mantle and a panel of guests explore the challenges facing Korean Americans in southern California, including struggles over national and cultural identity, isolation within the larger LA community, political empowerment, tensions between generations and the role of religion in Korean American life. Guests include Charles Kim, President and Executive Director of the Korean American Coalition, Young Lee Hertig, Professor of Global Studies at Azusa Pacific University and ordained Presbyterian Minister, and Ben Shin, English Ministry Pastor of the Los Angeles Hanmi Church and adjunct faculty at the Talbot School of Theology and Biola University.
