Libby was acquitted of one count of lying to the FBI. Alexander Bolton, Senior staff writer for The Hill, talks with Larry about the verdicts and political fallout.
Bomb Scare
Larry Mantle talks with renowned weapons expert, Joseph Cirincione, Vice President of National Security at the Center for American Progress, about his new book, Bomb Scare: The History and Future of Nuclear Weapons (Columbia University Press). Cirincione begins with the first atomic discoveries of the 1930s and covers the history of their growth all the way to current crisis with Iran. He unravels the science, strategy, and politics that have fueled the development of nuclear stockpiles and increased the chance of a nuclear terrorist attack. He also explains why many nations choose not to pursue nuclear weapons and pulls from this the outlines of a solution to the world's proliferation problem: a balance of force and diplomacy, enforcement and engagement that yields a steady decrease in these deadly arsenals.
Picturing Los Angeles
With the city continuously rebuilding itself, images of an earlier Los Angeles evoke a long-gone past, striking the chords of wonder and nostalgia. Larry talks with authors and Emmy Award winning filmmakers Jon & Nancy Wilkman about their new book Picturing Los Angeles (Gibbs Smith), a beautifully illustrated history of Los Angeles. Among Jon & Nancy Wilkman's current projects are a PBS special on the history of Chicano Rock 'n' Roll in East Los Angeles, and a documentary and book about the 1928 collapse of the St. Francis Dam in Los Angeles.
