Media Consolidation

AirTalk for March 4, 2003

When Congress lifted rules limiting radio station ownership in 1996, local radio stations around the country were bought by large corportations, and some believe radio programming has become more homogenous as a result. Now T.V. station ownership rules are being reviewed by the FCC, and 35% cap could soon be raised. Is this a good idea? Larry Mantle talks with FCC Commissioner Michael Copps, Jessie Walker, Associate Editor of Reason Magazine, and author of Rebels on the Air, An Alternative History of Radio in America, and Len Hill, Chairman of the Government Affairs Committee for the Caucus of Television Producers, Writers and Directors.
