California Legislature Addresses Wrongful Convictions
The Assembly Public Safety Committee cleared three bills yesterday aimed at preventing wrongful convictions. The measures, which have already passed the Senate, now head to the Appropriations Committee and, if successful, will go to the Assembly floor. Similar measures passed both houses last year, but were vetoed by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, because of law enforcement opposition. Larry and his guests discuss the likely future of the bills.
Tahoe Fire Update
Governor Schwarzenegger and Nevada Governor Jim Gibbons will be in the Lake Tahoe area today to see the damage caused by the wildfire that is still burning near the resort town. Larry talks with Ryan Lillas of the Sacramento Bee about the current state of the Lake Tahoe Wildfire.
The Duke Lacrosse Case
Former Duke Lacrosse head coach Mike Pressler resigned shortly after premature and false rape charges were made against 3 of his players. But until now we have not heard his story. Bestselling sports author Don Yaeger now tells it in the new book It's Not About the Truth: The Untold Story of the Duke Lacrosse Rape Case and the Lives it Shattered. Larry Mantle talks with Yaeger about the book, which is based on 3 weeks of detailed diary entries by head coach Pressler.
