The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors voted Wednesday to cut patient services throughout the county. The cuts will mean the closure of 11 of the county's 18 public health centers, the conversion of High Desert Hospital in Lancaster from a inpatient to an outpatient facility, and the reduction of funding for nonprofit and privately run clinics that serve county residents. Larry speaks with LA County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky and John Kotick, the executive director of the Center for Health Care Rights.

Chet Baker emerged in the 1950's when he came to the West Coast from Oklahoma and quickly became the prince of "cool" jazz. He died a violent drug-related death in Amsterdam in 1988. Larry Mantle talks with author and journalist James Gavin about his new book, Deep In a Dream (Knopf), that explores the mysterious and turbulent life of jazz trumpeter Chet Baker.
