Homegrown Terrorists Captured
Larry Mantle discusses the arrest of 7 "homegrown" terrorists in Miami who wanted to work with Al Qaeda against the United States.
Parental Notification Initiative Qualifies For Ballot
This initiative would amend the California Constitution to prohibit abortion for minors until 48 hours after a physician notifies her parent, or legal guardian, except in medical emergencies or with a parental waiver. The language of this initiative is slightly altered from a similar proposal California voters rejected, 53 to 47 percent, in 2005. Larry talks with a proponent and an opponent of the measure which will appear on the November, 2006 ballot.
Reforming Public Schools
Larry talks with education expert, Richard Kahlenberg, about his vision to restructure K-12 public schooling through partnering with community institutions. In his new report, focusing on the Pasadena Unified School District, Kahlenberg suggests a magnet system from elementary through high school to achieve a greater socioeconomic mix in the public schools.
Feds Tracking Banking Data
The LA Times reported today that the Treasury Department has been running a secret program to monitor banking data in order to track financing for global terrorism.
