Supreme Court Decisions
Larry Mantle talks with Southwestern University School of Law professor Bob Pugsley about the Supreme Court decision, just handed down this morning in the affirmative action and first amendment cases.
The SAG/AFTRA Merger
Members of the two unions, SAG, the Screen Actors Guild and AFTRA, the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists are casting ballots, due by June 30th, to vote on whether the two unions should consolidate. The pro-merger faction sees consolidation as the only way performers can stand up to the global entertainment conglomerates. Anti-merger union members, mostly Hollywood based SAG members, claim that the merger will strip the union of its power, dilute its historic identity, and put financial control in the hands of union officers that don't necessarily represent them. Peter Keifer, Labor/ Legal Reporter for The Hollywood Reporter joins host Larry Mantle to discuss the merger.
Latino Baseball Players
Larry Mantle talks with award-winning journalist and author Tim Wendel about his new book The New Face of Baseball: The One-Hundred-Year Rise and Triumph of Latinos in America's Favorite Sport (HarperCollins) that tells the history of the Latino rise to domination in Major League Baseball, and how today's superstars are transforming the league and the sport.
Steve March Torme
