High Court Decides To Limit Right To Sue HMOs

Yesterday the Supreme Court ruled that employees may not sue their HMOs for failure to deny treatment in state courts. This nullifies laws in ten states, including one in California, that had allowed such lawsuits. Larry Mantle talks with consumer advocate Jamie Court, and with Susan Pisano of America's Health Insurance Plans, for their reactions to the verdict.

Jobs Going To Non-Citizens & A Southland Labor Market Update

A new Pew Hispanic Center study, (the Latino Labor Report, First Quarter, 2004), shows that immigrants are getting 28.5% of newly-created jobs in the US economy. Roberto Suro, director of the Pew Hispanic Center, joins Host Larry Mantle to discuss the reports findings and the political implications of nearly a third of new jobs going to workers who cannot vote in the upcoming election. Also joining the conversation to give an update on the Southern California labor market is Jack Kyser, chief economist at the Los Angeles Economic Development Corporation, to give an update on the state of the labor market in Southern California. What kinds of new jobs are being created? Who is filling them? What sectors are weak; what sectors are strong?
