The House Votes to Increase Indecency Fines
The House has approved the Broadcast Decency Enforcement Act, which increases the maximum fine the Federal Communications Commission can levy for indecent material on the airwaves tenfold from the current top punishment of $32,500. The Senate approved the legislation last month, and President Bush is expected to sign it into law. Larry talks about the development with LA Times staff writer Jim Puzzanghera, former FCC Chief Economist Simon Wilke, Dan Isett of the Parents Television Council and Jonathan Taplin of USC's Annenberg School of Communication.
