Mexican Migration
In Antonio's Gun and Delfino's Dream: True Tales of Mexican Migration (University of New Mexico Press), freelance journalist Sam Quinones tells true immigration stories, revealing the effect Mexican migration has on both Mexican and U.S. culture. The various stories cover wide ranging topics from the Tijuana opera scene, to a Kansas soccer team made up entirely of immigrants. Larry talks to Quinones about his new book and the unique, poignant stories it contains.
Movie Posters
Before the 60's, movie posters used to serve commercial purposes resembling today's theatrical previews or TV ads for upcoming movies. The main difference, however, is that these posters were painted by real artists instead of being designed by computer software. Larry Mantle talks with Anthony Slide, Hollywood historian and author of the new book Now Playing: Hand-Painted Poster Art from the 1910's through the 1950's (Angel City), documenting the art and design of these individually crafted movie posters.
