Dr. Riad Abdelkarim Speaks about His Arrest in Israel
Dr. Riad Abdelkarim, the American Muslim physician from Anaheim who was arrested and recently released from custody in Israel, joins Larry Mantle to talk about the ordeal of his detention. Abdelkarim was on the board of the Holy Land Foundation, a relief organization based in Texas that was outlawed by the United States on charges that it provided funding for Hamas suicide bombings. The Israelis arrested Dr. Abdelkarim on suspicion of terrorist activity.
Citizen McCain
Larry Mantle talks with veteran political writer and commentator Elizabeth Drew about her new book, Citizen McCain (Simon & Schuster), that focuses on the politics and influence of Senator John McCain.
Gifted Education
As part of AirTalk's on-going series on Special Education, this discussion addresses gifted education. What is giftedness? What should you do if you suspect your child is gifted, and what educational options are there in Southern California for gifted children? Larry Mantle speaks with a parent, a 6th grade teacher from Walter Reed Middle School, Gail Craven, a psychologist from the same school, Sheila Vaughn, and the district coordinator for LAUSD's Gifted and Talented programs, Sheila Smith.
