The State of Arts Education in LA County
In a time of tightening education budgets and school spending cuts throughout LA County, how can the climate for arts education be improved without spending huge sums of money? The County's plan, Arts for All, is a 10-year blueprint to bring sequential arts education to all 82 school districts in the County. Larry Mantle discusses the plan and the larger issues regarding the difficulty of bringing arts education to the County's burgeoning K thru 12 students. Among other topics, the discussion will touch on the release of the County's first Arts Education Performance Indicators Report, which analyzes the state of infrastructure for arts education and the launch of the County's first online resource directory for arts education. Joining Larry is Mark Slavkin, Vice President for Education at the Music Center, Laura Zucker, Executive Director of the Los Angeles County Arts Commission and Michael Balaoing, Vice President of Programs for the Entertainment Industry Foundation.
