Budget Impasse
Larry talks with listeners about the standstill in the California Senate over the new budget.
What Would Make You Less Likely To Vote For A Candidate?
In a survey released in February by the Pew Research Center, 63% of the respondents said they would be less likely to vote for a candidate who doesn't believe in God. Larry discusses the results of that survey and what it tells us about what traits in candidates are important to voters.
Using Dead Celebrities' Images
A new bill by State Senator Sheila Kuehl of Santa Monica would strengthen California's intellectual property law with regard to the use of celebrities who died before 1985. Any use of the celebrity's name, likeness, signature, photograph or voice would be prohibited without permission of a relative or beneficiary. Since the use of many celebrities likenesses have been in the public domain for some time, opponents of the bill fear a flood of lawsuits could ensue if it should pass. Larry Mantle talks about the controversy with intellectual property attorney Jonathan Kirsch.
The History Of The CIA
Larry talks with Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Tim Weiner about his comprehensive new book, Legacy of Ashes: The History of the CIA, that chronicles the CIA from its beginnings to what is has become in the 21st Century. Weiner discusses its successes, its colossal failures its changing purpose, and its central mission that it seems, according to Weiner, has never been achieved.
Cycling Mishaps
Have you ever crashed a stationary bike? Or been knocked off your bicycle by a flying dead dog? Larry talks with avid cyclist Erich Schweikher, about these true stories and other bizarre, cycling mishaps, featured in his new book Cycling's Greatest Misadventures.
