9-11 Commission Releases its Final Report

AirTalk for July 22, 2004

Today, the National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States, as the 9-11 Commission is called formally, released its final report. It contains a list of ten "operational opportunities" that the intelligence community missed prior to the events of September 11th, 2001. The report does not say that the attacks should have been prevented, but it says that US intelligence agencies had a tough time recognizing the terrorist threat facing them. Joining Host Larry Mantle to discuss the report's findings is Larry Taulbee, Professor of Political Science at Emory University, Alfred Balitzer, Professor of Government at Claremont McKenna College, Jim Walsh, Executive Director, Managing the Atom Project at Harvard's Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs, and Ellen Laipson, President and CEO of the Henry L. Stimson Center.
