Yes, It’s A Pandemic, But It’s Also Summer. So What Are Your Creative (And Safe) Vacation Plans?

Ah, summer. Time to take time off from work to hit the beach, or road trip across the country or fly to new lands.

Of course, the pandemic made many types of vacations totally impossible and many of the remaining options anxiety-inducing and unsafe. Yet people still find creative ways to relax, whether it’s by camping, renting and RV or staying close to home. One of those people is AirTalk’s host Larry Mantle, who's taking next week off to rest and take a few day trips around Southern California. And he needs ideas, dear listeners, so share your creative (and safe) vacation plans by calling 866-893-5722.

Triple Play: It’s (Finally) Time For Baseball -- Dodgers, Angels Get Ready To Kick Off Abbreviated 2020 MLB Season

Triple Play: It’s (Finally) Time For Baseball -- Dodgers, Angels Get Ready To Kick Off Abbreviated 2020 MLB Season

The hand-wringing is over. The question of will there be a season or won’t there has been answered.

And some of us have even gotten a taste of what baseball will feel like this season with empty stands if you’ve been watching any of the intrasquad scrimmages that have popped up on TV. Yes, it’s three months too late and will be 101 games shorter than baseball fans would like, but there will be baseball in 2020 and it starts next week.

If not for the COVID pandemic, Los Angeles would have just wrapped up All Star Weekend last week at Dodger Stadium, where we would have seen the Home Run Derby and likely a celebrity softball game, all culminating in the 2020 All Star Game which would have been played last Tuesday in the Ravine. Instead, the Dodgers, who are currently tied with the Yankees in Vegas at +375 odds to win the World Series this year, are getting set for their home opener on Thursday against the rival San Francisco Giants and the new-look Angels start their season on the road against the Athletics in Oakland before returning to Anaheim for their home opener against the Seattle Mariners on July 28th.

Today on AirTalk, Larry Mantle, A Martinez and Nick Roman combine their radio powers to become the Triple Play and preview the Dodgers and Angels abbreviated 2020 seasons.

‘Hollywood, The Sequel:’ Disney’s ‘Mulan’ Producer Jason Reed On The Film’s Delay And What The Film Industry During COVID Means For Gig Workers

‘Hollywood, The Sequel:’ Disney’s ‘Mulan’ Producer Jason Reed On The Film’s Delay And What The Film Industry During COVID Means For Gig Workers

Today on FilmWeek, we’ll share part of John’s latest episode of “Hollywood, The Sequel” where he and Jason Reed talk about his expectations for “Mulan” after the film’s release has been delayed twice and the implications he thinks the film industry in the age of COVID will have for gig workers.

One of the most anticipated blockbusters of the year, Disney’s live-action remake of “Mulan” has been postponed twice from its original March premiere date to August 21. The film directed by Niki Caro is one of this year’s big budget features, costing Disney approximately $200 million to produce. Unlike many other movies that have moved their releases to VOD and streaming platforms,  Disney has pushed back on following the same route. But looking at the pandemic’s trajectory and extended closures of movie theaters, it’s hard to tell if a theatrical premiere of “Mulan” will be possible within the next few months. Producer Jason Reed, who’s other producing credits include “National Treasure: Book of Secrets” and “Enchanted”, is holding out hope that audiences will be able to experience “Mulan” on the big screen.

As a part of the ongoing discussion on how Hollywood’s adjusting to the pandemic and hopes to reopen, KPCC’s John Horn spoke with Reed on “Mulan” and what he sees for the future of the entertainment industry.
