How Wall Street Caused The Mortgage and Credit Crisis

AirTalk for July 16, 2008

In the summer of 2007, the sub-prime mortgages business came crashing down. The new book, "Chain of Blame," chronicles the disaster, with a focus on the players responsible. According to the authors, Paul Muolo and Matthew Padilla, these included not only unregulated loan brokers and con artists, but also investment bankers and home loan institutions traditionally perceived as trustworthy. Larry talks with Matthew Padilla about the fiasco and who is ultimately responsible for what happened.

Bishop Gene Robinson

AirTalk for July 16, 2008

Gene Robinson, the first openly gay Episcopal bishop in the U.S., has been the subject of controversy, and the recipient of death threats, since his election in 2003. This week, the Lambeth Conference, is being held in England. It is the once a decade gathering of Anglican bishops from around the world to pray and discuss church policy and doctrine. Bishop Robinson was dis-invited from attending Lambeth. Although he was excluded, some bishops still refuse to attend Lambeth because they don't want to associate with others who voted for Robinson. Larry speaks with Bishop Robinson from England, where he is planning to attend the Lambeth Conference in order to be a "constant and friendly" reminder of gays in the church.
