The True Story of Three Men Who Defied the Nazis and Saved Over a Thousand Jews
In 1941, three young men watched as their friends and family were led away to concentration camps. Instead of giving in to despair, they fought back by waging a guerilla war of wits against the Nazis and Nazi sympathizers. They established hidden base camps for Jews deep within the dense forests surrounding the Belorussian towns of Novogrudek and Lida. These camps grew into full-fledged communities that survived until the end of the war and allowed more than a thousand Jews to escape extermination. Larry talks with author Peter Duffy whose new book, The Bielski Brothers (Harper Collins), tells their true story.
