Sicko

AirTalk for July 12, 2007

In his new film, Sicko, Michael Moore paints a frightening picture of the American health care system with horrifying stories of people who can't get medical care because they can't afford it or can't navigate the confusing channels of managed care in the US. Since the film's release pundits and healthcare experts have disputed the veracity of his claims and argued that his facts are distorted or taken out of context. Larry Mantle and expert guests Sally Pipes, President and CEO of the Pacific Research Institute, and Gerald Kominski, Associate Director of the UCLA Center for Health Policy Research, discuss Sicko and analyze the relative merits of universal health care as it's practiced in Canada, the United Kingdom, France and Cuba, comparing their health care systems to our own.
