Orange County Transit Strike
Southern California may be the land of the automobile, but 225,000 Orange County residents still depend on the bus to get where they need to go. Is The Governor Really Green?
He's been on the cover of national magazines and identified with a growing movement towards regulating the environment at the state and local level. But some are questioning his long-term commitment. A battle over the leadership of the California Air Resources Board and the firing of its chairman, Dr. Robert Sawyer, have lead to a string of accusations that the Governor's staff may not be on the same page when it comes to environmental policy. Larry talks with Linda Adams, Secretary of the Cal EPA, and others about what some are calling Schwarzenegger's environmental schizophrenia.
New Survey On Alcohol Abuse
Is alcoholism on the rise? Or, are more people actually admitting to it? According to a new study released by the National Institutes of Health, more than 30 percent of adults have had an alcohol related problem. With a study sample of 43,000 face-to-face interviews, 42 percent of men and 19 percent of women reported alcohol-related problematic behavior. Analysis revealed that most disorders had their onset in early adulthood, with the majority of subjects not seeking help for a decade or more. That decade between onset and treatment, according to an NIH official, "leads to personal disability and societal change." Larry Mantle and guests discuss the study.
Queen Latifah
Larry talks with singer and Academy award-nominated actress Queen Latifah about her upcoming Jazz concert at the Hollywood Bowl. Queen Latifah's appearance at the Bowl is this Wednesday, July 11th at 8 p.m. Her upcoming CD is titled Travl'in' Light and will be released in late September. She can also be seen as "Motormouth Maybelle" in the upcoming film "Hairspray."
