A new USC study finds that not only are children who live near highways more likely to develop respiratory diseases, but their lung development may also be stunted. Researchers focused on more than 3,600 children in 12 Central and Southern California communities. Larry and his guests discuss the new findings that can be found in the online version of the medical journal The Lancet. The print edition comes out next month.
LA Times' New Web Focus
The Los Angeles Times has been a bit behind the times themselves in terms of the emphasis they've placed on the paper's website. Editor James O'Shea unveiled a major plan to combine operations of the newspaper and its Internet site. Declining print advertising revenue is behind the push encouraging the Times' 940 journalists to view latimes.com as the primary vehicle for delivering news. Larry and his guests discuss the newspaper industry's trend of shifting resources to their websites and away from print editions.
