Changes in Spanish Language Print Media
Change is afoot in the Spanish language print media market in Los Angeles. The Tribune Company is going to bring a new Spanish language newspaper, Hoy, to our city, and La Opinion just merged with El Diario, from New York, to form a new company called Impremedia. Host Larry Mantle speaks with Monica Lozano, publisher and CEO of La Opinion, and Julio Moran, Executive Director of the California Chicano News Media Association, about the developments.
A Hawkish Look at the War on Terror
In their new book, former presidential speechwriter David Frum and Richard Perle, former assistant secretary of defense, say that America is very vulnerable today against terrorist threats, North Korea and China. Frum and Perle offer a conservative point of view on American foreign policy, arguing for policy that moderates and liberals would call "hawkish," like pulling out of the United Nations, if it cannot make the reforms that they see fit. David Frum joins Larry Mantle to discuss his book, An End to Evil: How to Win the War on Terror (Random House).
Mars Rover "Opportunity" Makes Safe Landing on the Red Planet
Host Larry Mantle gets an update on the Mars rover "Opportunity" from Tim Parker, Scientist on the Mars Exploration Rover Team at JPL. Mr. Parker chose Opportunity's landing site.
Henry Louis Gates Dialogues With African Americans
The head of Harvard's African-American Studies Department traveled across America, interviewing notable African Americans like Colin Powell and Morgan Freeman to trace the evolution of black America into two polarized groups: the privileged and the disenfranchised. Gates looks at topics like the legacy of the Civil Rights movement and black culture. Professor Gates joins Larry Mantle to discuss his new book, America Behind the Color Line: Dialogues With African Americans (Warner).
