The Senate Judiciary Committee has endorsed the nomination of Judge Samuel Alito to the Supreme Court, and the full senate will begin debating his confirmation today. Expecting his final confirmation, legislators in many states are preparing abortion-ban bills, hoping eventually to force the Supreme Court to reconsider Roe v. Wade. Larry Mantle talks with guests about these state initiatives to ban abortion.

Residents of California’s Chinese communities are self-reported pathological gamblers or problem gamblers at a rate far above that of the overall population. According to the Los Angeles Times, some casinos and card rooms near Los Angeles estimate that Asians often account for 80% of their customers. Many Nevada casinos even maintain business offices in Monterey Park. Larry speaks with Diane Ujiiye, Dr. Timothy Fong and Pastor Mamie Ko to learn more about the cause and effect of this phenomenon that some consider an epidemic.

TARGETED KILLING

In Steven Spielberg’s controversial film Munich, we’re brought into the world of targeting killing—where governments send assassins to take out known terrorists. Recently, the US targeted Al Qaeda members in a missile attack on Pakistan--many civilians, including children, died as a result. Still, sometimes these killings have been effective in stopping terrorists. But does it work in the long run? And is it legal? Moral? Larry talks to experts about this controversy.

Imagine the world’s biggest movie star suddenly starts talking and flirting with you? That’s the premise of My Lucky Star, a new novel by Joe Keenan, the producer of the hit comedy show Frasier. Keenan is a playwright and author of two previous novels, Blue Heaven and Putting on the Ritz. He was also a writer/ producer on Frasier for seven years.
