Schwarzenegger Orders Emergency Plan To Cover Drug Costs For Seniors
The state of California will pay for prescriptions for seniors and the disabled who are unable to fill them because of glitches in the new Medicare program. The governor on Thursday ordered state health officials to cover pharmacy costs for prescription drugs for five days. The state Legislature may extend the emergency coverage for another 10 days. California is one of at least nine states taking such measures. Federal officials have estimated an error rate of about 20 percent, meaning about 200,000 Californians are at risk of being unable to get their medications. Larry talks with Stan Rosenstein , Deputy Director of Medical Care Services, for the California Department of Health Services, John Cronin, Senior VP and General Counsel for the California Pharmacists Association, Ann Kasper, Program Director of Inland Agency Hi-Cap (Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program), and Steve Deering, Deputy Regional Director for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
