Citigroup Supports Bankruptcy Reform
Bankruptcy courts always had the power to delay payments and work out ways for borrowers to get back on track. But now Citigroup is supporting legislation to allow courts to reduce the principal for people in "under water" loans--where borrowers, hit with late payments and interest, have no chance of repaying the principals on their home mortgages. The industry had previously opposed this. Larry checks in with economists and banking experts on how this might change the dynamics of our sinking economy.
Lend Damn It, Lend! Why Won't Banks Lend!
About half of the $700 billion rescue package has been distributed, but banks are still not lending, and the economic crisis continues to worsen. Why aren't banks issuing loans, and when will they start?
Excuse Me, Have You Seen Our $350 Billion?
A new report from a congressional panel blames the Treasury Department for failing to track taxpayer money given to banks via the governments $700 billion Troubled Asset Relief Program, or TARP. Where did the money go? And what will be done to protect future cash infusions and loans given via the program? Larry checks in with economic experts.
