Fraud Ring Steals Credit Data From Consumer Information Company, ChoicePoint, Inc.
A fraud ring stole personal credit information from ChoicePoint, Inc., a consumer information company, affecting possibly a hundred thousand people, including at least 35,000 Californians. Because of California law, Californians will be notified by mail that their credit information may be compromised. Host Larry Mantle discusses what people can do to repair their credit, if it has been compromised, and how such information can be kept secure in the first place. Joining him is Robert Costa, Lieutenant with the Southern California hi-tech task force, identity theft detail, for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s department, and Jordana Beebe, communications director for the Privacy Rights Clearing House, a privacy rights organization in San Diego.
11th City Council District Debate
Larry Mantle moderates a debate between candidates Bill Rosendahl, Flora Gil Krisiloff and Angela Reddock for the 11th District City Council seat which will be vacated by termed-out city councilwoman Cindy Miscikowski. The 11th district includes the Westside communities of Pacific Palisades, Brentwood, Mar Vista, West LA, Westchester, Venice, Del Rey, Marina Del Rey and Playa Del Rey. The Mar Vista Community Council, the League of Women Voters of LA and the West LA Chamber of Commerce sponsored this debate.
Health Dialogues
Two noted infertility experts join Host Larry Mantle to discuss infertility treatments for older women. What are the challenges for a woman to carry a baby to term, the older she gets? As doctors streamline in-vitro fertilization, will this become the fertility treatment of choice? Does insurance cover such treatments? Larry and his guests will also discuss new infertility technologies. Joining Larry is Dr. Alan DeCherney, M.D., Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at UCLA’s David Geffen School of Medicine, and Dr. Lawrence Werlin, M.D., Professor at UC Irvine where he is a specialist in Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility.
Black Hollywood
A world unto itself, Black Hollywood was a place distinct from the studio-system-dominated Tinseltown. It had its own talent scouts, media, watering holes and hotels and, of course, its own glamorous personalities. Larry Mantle talks with best selling author Donald Bogle about his new book Bright Boulevards, Bold Dreams: The Story of Black Hollywood (Ballantine Books), in which he chronicles sixty years of history of African Americans making a place for themselves in the entertainment industry.
