LAPD Officer Shoots 13-Year-Old African American
On Sunday morning, an LAPD officer shot a 13-year-old African American, Devin Brown, ten times after he took police on a several mile joy ride and then backed into the patrol car. The African American community is outraged at what they see as an excessive use of force. The LAPD is reviewing the situation, as well as their policy about shooting into moving vehicles. Larry speaks with Sister Menenhall, Vice Chair of the Watts Neighborhood Council and a Gang Intervention Counselor and Consultant, and Connie Rice, Civil Rights Attorney and Co-Director of the Advancement Project. (Ms. Rice is on the board of SCPR). Larry also speaks with David Klinger, a former LAPD officer and Associate Professor of Criminology and Criminal Justice at the University of Missouri-St.Louis. He’s the author of Into the Kill Zone: A Cop’s Eye View of Deadly Force.

Israelis & Palestinians Agree to a Truce
Palestinian and Israeli leaders agreed to a ceasefire during Tuesday's meeting in the Sinai, Egypt. Palestinian President Mahmous Abbas and Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon agreed to end hostilities, with Israel agreeing to release some Palestinian prisoners and withdraw troops from West Bank cities. This is promising news in the stalled peace process, ending four years of a violent Palestinian intifada that has left over four thousand people dead. Larry Mantle discusses what might come next in the revitalized peace process--who has to give what, and how it might move forward. Joining him is Dr. Ziad Asali, president of the American Task Force on Palestine, Ehud Danoch, Consul General of Israel in Los Angeles, Rabbi Gary Greenebaum, Western Regional Director of the American Jewish Committee, and Dr. Layla Al-Maryati, M.D., a Palestinian-American physician and a member of the board of MPAC.
