"Friday of Departure” - prayers & protest continue in Egypt
Tens of thousands packed central Cairo today, with protesters demanding that Egyptian President Mubarak step down now. Bloody street fights took place over two days as pro-regime demonstrators clashed with protesters. On Thursday, the White House stepped up pressure on Mubarak. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton called for a government transition to begin "immediately." The Senate passed a resolution stating the same and spelling out the need for an interim government. Meanwhile, President Mubarak says President Obama doesn't understand Egypt and why Mubarak should not step down -- warning his country would descend into chaos. What's to be made of the Administration increasing pressure on Mubarak? Does Mubarak's assessment have any credibility at this point? How soon could elections happen? How soon should they happen? Mubarak "warned" that the Muslim Brotherhood would take over the government. Is that the case?

Super Bowl XLV has many storylines
Cowboys Stadium Sunday will host the Super Bowl, in which the AFC champion Pittsburg Steelers will face the champions of the NFC, the Green Bay Packers. Both teams had interesting storylines on the road to the last game of the 2010 NFL season. Steelers quarterback “Big Ben” Roethlisberger shook off a 4-game suspension due to off-field legal troubles and led the Steelers to a 12-4 record. Green Bay’s quarterback, Aaron Rodgers, earned the respect of Green Bay’s legion of uber-devoted fans by emerging from the shadow of the legendary Brett Favre, having a banner 3rd season and leading his team to a 10-6 record. Pittsburg leads all NFL teams with 6 wins in 8 Super Bowl appearances. The Packers have played in 5 and won 3… although The Pack also have an additional 9 titles from the pre-Super Bowl era. Both cities are home to rabid football fans who will no doubt do anything to brave the recent “snowpocalypse” and arrive in Arlington, Texas for the kickoff at 5:25pm CST on Sunday. What will be the most memorable part of Super Bowl XLV? The score? The commercials? The weather?

‘Superman’ apparently faster than a speeding Oscar
Four years ago Davis Guggenheim won an Oscar for the movie that brought global warming into the mainstream: “An Inconvenient Truth.” Last year he came back with “Waiting for Superman,” a documentary that turned the stories of five children struggling through a dilapidated education system into a battle cry for change. As Oscar season approached “Waiting for Superman” pulled in awards, built buzz, and contributed to the national debate over what should be done to improve America’s failing public schools. To the surprise of many, the film did not yield an Oscar nomination. Why not? Did “Waiting for Superman” offer effective, meaningful solutions to the problem it attempts to address?
