Michael Steele Chosen To Head Republican Party
Michael Steele has been chosen as Republican National Committee chairman, defeating many others in more than six rounds of voting. He is the first African-American to lead the GOP. Larry talks about Steele what he can do to revive the party. Joining Larry is Dan Schnur, Director of the Jesse Unruh Institute of Politics at USC.
Rendition Of Terror Suspects Under Obama
As President Obama discards some of the counter-terrorism tools used under George W. Bush, he is retaining the CIA's use of rendition, the practice of secret abduction and transfer of prisoners to countries that cooperate with the United States. However, his stated policy looks to be a scaling back of the extreme practices used under George W. Bush to the methods used by previous administrations. Human rights groups have stated their support for Obama's stance. Larry Mantle discusses the role of rendition in combating terrorism. Guests include Greg Miller of the Los Angeles Times, and Allen Weiner of Stanford University.
What It Takes To Survive
Why do some people overcome the dangers and adversity of life, while others do not? Is it due to faith, luck, genetics, or perhaps a combination? In his new book "The Survivor's Club," Ben Sherwood looks at what makes some people more resilient than others, especially in getting through trying times. He examines true stories, such as a woman who survived being hit by a trash truck. He also explores the safest place to sit on an airplane, why right-handed people live longer than left-handed people, and why some individuals are more accident-prone than others. Ben Sherwood joins Larry Mantle to talk about what it takes to beat the odds.
