News Corp launches iPad only newspaper, “The Daily”
The Internet has changed the way we get our news, and the rapid rise of smartphones has put the 24-hour news cycle in our pockets. With The Daily, Newscorp has unveiled the first i-Pad only newspaper, and the buzz has been building around Rupert Murdoch’s new news venture. Murdoch’s usual tack is to buy a product, and then go in and restructure - the way he did with the Wall Street Journal. But this is different. Content for The Daily will be created specifically for Apple’s iPad tablet by its own staff of well respected journalists and available only by subscription. How will The Daily be different than other virtual news sources? Will it be a game changer in the world of digital media?

AEG & unions join forces against environmentalists over fight for new LA stadium
The Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG) has stepped up its efforts to bring both the NFL and a new stadium to Los Angeles. To help move the process along, the entertainment giant recently petitioned state lawmakers to grant the proposed downtown project some environmental exemptions. The move would not be unprecedented in nature as lawmakers granted such immunity to Ed Roski Jr. in 2009, who leads a competing group of investors to build a stadium in the City of Industry. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa has endorsed the project saying it would be a boon to the downtown Los Angeles economy, but some environmentalists are not pleased that exemptions are being considered for big business. Should environmental concerns be set aside in favor of LA’s downtown economy?
