New State Laws; The Movie Going Experience; Critics Pick Best Films Of 2005
New State Laws
Lawmaking was relatively restrained in 2005, but that didn't stop lawmakers from coming up with 3,202 ideas for new laws. The hundreds that passed will take effect on New Year's Day, and will change the way Californians drive cars, pierce their bodies, send junk faxes, and purchase emergency birth control. Guest host Ted Chen gets the update from KPCC's Sacramento Reporter, Tamara Keith, and discusses the legal issues with Laurie Levenson, Professor of Law at Loyola Marymount and Donald Kochan from Chapman University School of Law.
The Movie Going Experience
How has going to the movies changed in recent years? Some say that commercials, ticket prices, long lines, and chatty audience members are spoiling the experience. On the other hand some movie theatres are offering pre-paid assigned seats, cocktails, and matinees for parents and toddlers. Ted talks with film critics Pete Hammond and Jeffrey Lyons, and opens the phones to our listeners, to find out what they like, and don't like, about the movie going experience today.
