State Democrats Propose Big Tax Hikes
State Democrats have proposed to close $18 billion of the state's shortfall over the next 18 months through a series of legal maneuvers that would cut some taxes but raise others significantly. The plan would raise the sales tax in Los Angeles to a whopping 9.5%. It would also add a 13 cent gax, and raise state income taxes by 2.5% for 2009. Larry talks with State Assembly Speaker Karen Bass, Assembly Budget Committee Vice Chair Roger Niello and H.D. Palmer of the State Department of Finance about the proposal.
