The Future Of NASA Under The New Administration

AirTalk for December 17, 2008

Back in 2004, President Bush announced his "Vision for Space Exploration," which was then authorized by Congress and promoted by current NASA head Michael Griffin. The plan was to retire the shuttle and begin construction of a new vehicle with a goal of establishing a moon base and, eventually, launching a mission to Mars. But with a new administration, and the economic crisis, it's unclear if this vision will reach fruition. What does President-elect Obama have in mind for space travel? And what do you think NASA should do in the years to come. Larry is joined by Dr. Louis Friedman, executive director of the Planetary Society, Scott Pace, director of the Space Policy Institute at George Washington University, and Kathryn Thornton, former NASA astronaut with the shuttle program.
