City Council Approves LAX Modernization Plan

In a 12 to 3 vote on Tuesday the Los Angeles City Council approved an $11-billion plan to modernize the Los Angeles that would include construction of a transit hub, a consolidated rental-car center, an elevate people mover and the relocation of the southernmost runway closer to the City of El Segundo. Larry's guests are: Zev Yaroslavsky, L.A. County Supervisor, 3rd District; Dennis Zine, Los Angeles City Councilman (district 3);Cindy Miscikowski, Los Angeles City Councilwoman (district 11); and Jack Weiss, Los Angeles City Councilman (district 5).

Can Cities Restrict The Activities of Day Laborers?

The city of Redondo Beach has been citing and arresting day laborers, claiming they are causing traffic problems. A handful of them filed suit, claiming they had been singled out by the city. A federal judge agreed, but the city attorney plans to appeal. Do cities have a right to restrict the activities of day laborers? Larry looks at this issue with guests: Rob Schmitz, KPCC Reporter; Jerry Goddard, Redondo Beach City Attorney; Thomas A. Saenz, Vice President of Litigation at MALDEF and lead counsel on the Redondo Beach case.
