Fears stir in Vietnamese community that US seeks more refugee deportations
Advocates for the Vietnamese American community say they fear the Trump administration may be negotiating with Vietnam to take back thousands of refugees who came to the U.S. decades ago.
They say many arrived as children or teens but later ran afoul of the law, making them deportable. U.S. officials have been pushing to deport those who have been convicted of crimes and have a final removal order.
A spokesman for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement said the agency does not comment on ongoing diplomatic negotiations.

RIP Weekly Standard: Conservative mainstay calls it quit after 23 years
The Weekly Standard, a conservative media outlet that has been critical of President Trump, announced Friday that it will terminate after 23 years.
Founder and editor-at-large of the magazine Bill Kristol tweeted this morning:
All good things come to an end. And so, after 23 years, does The Weekly Standard. I want to express my gratitude to our readers and my admiration for my colleagues. We worked hard to put out a quality magazine, and we had a good time doing so. And we have much more to do. Onward!

In the Trump era, the Standard has been one of the few conservative voices critical of the President. Larry speaks with The Hill’s media analyst Joe Concha about what the demise of the Weekly Standard says about state of play in the conservative media circle.

After CA assemblymember gets in trouble for spanking daughter, we discuss the legalities and psychology of spanking
On Sunday, Democratic assemblyman Joaquin Arambula was arrested on a misdemeanor child abuse charge for spanking his 7-year-old daughter in order to discipline her.
His daughter told a teacher, who reported it to the school. Arambula has said that spanking is a disciplinary tool that he uses as a last resort. If he is convicted, he could be looking at up to six months in jail.
The incident has made us wonder about the psychological ramifications, as well as the legalities of spanking. What does the academic literature say about the psychological ramifications and disciplinary effectiveness of spanking? What is the legal line between abuse and spanking in California? If you are a parent, how do you feel about spanking as a disciplinary measure?
