Tookie Williams
Larry opens the phones and gets listeners opinions on the controversary surrounding Stanley “Tookie” Williams’ impending execution. The convicted murderer and co-founder of the Crips gang is scheduled to die by lethal injection on December 13th. Governor Schwarzenegger meets tomorrow with attorneys and advocates for the condemned death row inmate to listen to their argument for sparing Williams’ sentence to life in prison without parole.
President Bush’s Iraq Strategy
President Bush delivered his second in a series of four speeches today on his Iraq strategy to the Council on Foreign Relations. Larry talks with Walter Russell Mead, Henry A. Kissinger Senior Fellow for U.S. Foreign Policy at the Council on Foreign Relations, and Max Sowickey, economist for the Economic Policy Institute about Iraq’s economic progress.
Saddam Hussein’s Trial: A Dictator’s Disdain
Five witnesses have testified in this the fourth session of Saddam Hussein's trial. Their voices were disguised to protect them from reprisals, but the testimony they gave couldn’t be starker. They recalled beatings and horrific torture at the hands of Hussein’s security agents. But Saddam didn’t show remorse. Instead, he has shown open disdain for the judges and lawyers. Yesterday, he exploded, vowing not to return to the trial. Larry talks to Basam Al-Husseini, advisor to the Iraqi Prime Minister, who has been attending the trial. He also talks to Stanford International Law Professor Allen Weiner.
Thieves Of Baghdad
Matthew Bogdanos is a U.S. Marine Colonel and New York City homicide prosecutor. He was recalled to active military duty on September 11th. Bogdanos volunteered to investigate the theft and destruction at the Iraqi museum. Larry talks with Bogdanos about the work he and his team did to recover some 5,000 artifacts.
