Bush's Mortgage Bailout Plan
In an effort to aid the thousands of homeowners with ever-increasing mortgages, the Bush administration has outlined a plan to freeze interest rates for five years. Larry discusses the plan with Paul Leonard, of the Center for Responsible Lending, and Brad Sherman, Democratic Congressman from the 27th congressional district.
L.A. Librarian and His Experiences in the Public Library
Larry talks with local library assistant Dob Borchert about his new book, Free For All: Oddballs, Geeks, and Gangstas in the Public Library (Virgin), which chronicles his day-to-day experiences working in the public library system.
Number of Women Giving Birth Over 40 Rising
More and more women are giving birth at a later age. Larry talks with Ingrid Rodi, of the UCLA School of Medicine, and Richard J. Paulson, Director of USC Fertility, about the recent rise in the number of women giving birth over the age of 40. What is the latest research? What are the latest treatments? What are the risks? Larry discusses the issues.
It's Not Easy Being Green
TerraChoice, an environmental marketing firm, tested over 1,000 products that made environmental claims, ranging from toothpaste to office paper. These products were found on the selves if six big-box retailers and all claimed to provide some benefit to the environment. The firm's testers were shocked to discover that all but one product violated at least one of the "Six Sins of Greenwashing," a list of misleading claims companies make in marketing green products to consumers. Larry talks with Scot Case from TerraChoice about their findings and how difficult it is to find products that are authentically green. Also, Larry talks with Tommy Rosen, founder of the Eco Gift Expo, an eco-conscious holiday gift show taking place at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium on December 15th and 16th.
