Hurricane Katrina
Larry Mantle gets the latest update on Hurricane Katrina from Karen Henderson, News Director at NPR affiliate WRKF in Baton Rouge, a Meteorologist from the National Weather service, and Scott Gold, LA Times staff writer in New Orleans.
FEMA Decision On Laguna Beach Landslide
Last week FEMA declared that Bluebird Canyon landslide this past June was not linked to the winter rains and therefore rejected Laguna Beach’s request for emergency aid to repair the hillside. Larry talks with Ken Frank, the City Manager of Laguna Beach, about the city’s plans to appeal the FEMA decision and Mike Tiffany, whose Bluebird Canyon home was destroyed in the slide.
Relaxing Standards For LAPD Officers
The Los Angeles Police Department is joining a growing number of law enforcement agencies across the nation in considering less stringent recruitment rules. Police Chief William J. Bratton said he was drawing up the revisions, which would end the LAPD's zero-tolerance rule toward past marijuana use and make it easier for the department to hire people with bad credit histories. Larry Mantle talks with Eugene O'Donnell, professor at John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York about the proposed changes.
What Not To Talk About At Work
Larry Mantle talks with Nancy Bornn, an employment law attorney at Borrn & Surls in Marina Del Rey, and Darcy Mix, Director of Business Development and Professional Services at Deacon Recruiting located in San Antonio, Texas about what NOT to talk about at work. Should your personal life be off-limits with your colleagues? How about the crush you have on the xerox guy, or your favorite brand of underwear, or your husband's prostate problems? What’s permissible and what’s not, even in an office where co-workers are also friends? Larry takes your calls.
