Recall Update
Patt Morrison speaks with political consultant Harvey Englander about the latest news in the California recall election.
Shark Attack
Deborah Franzman died after being bitten by a 15-18 foot shark off Avila Beach in Central California last Tuesday. The attack heightened public awareness of sharks, buoyed by sightings of great whites swimming off San Onofre Beach, a popular area for surfing. Patt Morrison dives into the subject with Michael Domeier, PhD., President of the Pfleger Institute of Environmental Research, a non-profit dedicated to researching and promoting important issues in marine biology and fisheries, and Peter Pyle, farallon biologist at Point Reyes Bird Observatory to discuss the sharks living along our coastline--what they eat, their behavior, and what marine biologists are learning about them through satellite tracking.
Triangle Shirtwaist Fire
Until September 11th, the Triangle Shirtwaist factory fire of 1911 was the worst workplace disaster in the history of New York City, killing 146 people. Washington Post journalist David Von Drehle joins guest host Patt Morrison to discuss his book Triangle: The Fire That Changed America that chronicles the details of the disaster, the sensational trial that followed, and the labor legacy of the tragedy.
